  • a broad study of options relating to the A14 now that the previously proposed scheme has been withdrawn;
  • the ‘A14 challenge’ (a ‘consultation’ looking for ideas; and
  • the £20million of short-term measures (including some for the Girton interchange)

00176182_cgb_crossingThe guided bus cuts Station Road in Histon and Impington and there’s quite a complex crossing set-up including a diagonal for cyclists. But because a green man can only be given to pedestrians crossing the busway itself when both Station Road and the busway have red lights the green man time for parents and their children walking to school has been very short.

Dscn5358_bus_stopThe bus route from Cottenham into the City has existed for many years. The name of the service changes (106 to citi7 to citi8 etc)  but the route hasn’t varied. And the stops associated with the route are defined and known, both by County Council officers and by Stagecoach’s managers. But because there’s no sign at the stop just north of Histon bus drivers have been reluctant to stop there.

Dscn5353_ccc_carol_singing_2The result of the new approach to council meetings has been twofold. Firstly because we no longer review the recent cabinet meetings we have to find other ways of engaging debate and that’s meant more motions. Previously there have been only 1 maybe 2 motions per meeting, at the last meeting there were 8, this time there were 7. And secondly a change which has not happened. There was a threat to ration oral questions. There is no evidence yet that this had happened. This meant it was another long day, 7 motions and lots of questions plus one petition.

Dscn4259_freedom_busThe County Council’s bus consultation ends 4pm on Friday 9 Dec 11. The Council will use the results of this consultation to help it to decide whether or not to continue supporting the weekly 110 ‘freedom bus’ service from Histon and Impington to Ely and the daily 106 service from Cottenham to Ely.

There have been grumblings for some time about the time that the crossing lights allow for pedestrians to cross the guided busway but its taken parents from the south of Impington to bring them sharply into focus.

Histon_stationThe station building at Histon on what is now the guided busway was saved by community action 4 or 5 years ago. It seems that the current owner no longer wants it so that the County Council is going through the process of compulsory purchase. It expects this to take some time and in the meantime is looking for an interim use.
