The bus route from Cottenham into the City has existed for many years. The name of the service changes (106 to citi7 to citi8 etc) but the route hasn’t varied. And the stops associated with the route are defined and known, both by County Council officers and by Stagecoach’s managers. But because there’s no sign at the stop just north of Histon bus drivers have been reluctant to stop there.

The County Council’s bus consultation ends 4pm on Friday 9 Dec 11. The Council will use the results of this consultation to help it to decide whether or not to continue supporting the weekly 110 ‘freedom bus’ service from Histon and Impington to Ely and the daily 106 service from Cottenham to Ely.

There have been grumblings for some time about the time that the crossing lights allow for pedestrians to cross the guided busway but its taken parents from the south of Impington to bring them sharply into focus.
The County Council has paid a heavy price for its cavalier decision last February to cut all bus subsidies. No research had been conducted on people’s transport needs and there was no plan in place for those who lack transport of their own and would end up stranded. The council said it expected Community Transport to make up the difference.

We’ve waited a long time for it and there’s been a barrage of publicity about it in recent weeks culiminating in extensive Cambridge News anticipation of the ‘VIP bus’ which would drive on the busway from St Ives to Cambridge early this morning. David and Sue were two of the VIPs and enjoyed a splendid Cambridge summer Sunday morning which showed off the route at its best.

Following the excellent response to Jonathan’s request for input regarding Histon and Impington’s bus service and Stagecoach’s recent change of it to the citi8 Andy Campbell, Stagecoch MD, agreed to meet him along with county councillors Sue Gymer and David Jenkins and representatives of both parish councils. The meeting took place last Monday and Andy was accompanied by Ross Burton.
